Glowing Green Smoothie

Green smoothies are everywhere these days, and for good reason! They’re delicious, energizing, and incredibly healthy. So many nutrients are packed into these refreshing treats, and the best part about them is that most don’t taste “green” at all.

I rarely ever make smoothies anymore that aren’t green. I love drinking one of these as a sort of detox after a weekend of poor eating choices. No matter how bad I’ve been, these always get me back on track and help me to feel clean again. As the weather starts to get warmer, I find myself craving these more and more. They’re perfect for an on-the-go snack or even as a meal. In the summertime, I love starting my mornings with a nice tall green smoothie.

This is my go-to green smoothie recipe. It’s simple, fool-proof, and uses only four ingredients, making it a great beginner recipe. If you’re still not too sure about adding leafy greens into your beverages, this is a great way to start. You could certainly add more ingredients like protein powder, flax seed, or even avocado, but you definitely don’t have to. This is a great base recipe to build on or to drink as is.

To make this recipe, you’ll need –

  • 2 cups baby spinach
  • 1 cup orange juice or water (Sometimes I do half and half. Orange juice will give you more flavor but water is fine if you don’t want the extra calories/sugar)
  • 1 banana
  • 2 cups frozen fruit

Start by blending the baby spinach and the orange juice or water. This is the trick to making sure you don’t end up with any large chunks of spinach in your smoothie, because nobody wants that. Once the liquid and the greens are completely combined, add in the banana and frozen fruit and continue blending until smooth. You may need to scrape down the sides of the blender if anything gets stuck on there. If necessary, add in a little more liquid until you reach the desired consistency.

The nice thing about using frozen fruit is that it takes the place of ice. Just throw the fruit right in the blender while it’s still frozen, and you’ll end up with an ice cold smoothie that’s full of flavor. Any frozen fruit will work for this recipe, but I typically use some kind of tropical mix. I prefer to use a fruit mix that doesn’t have a lot of berries just because the berries will take away some of the green color from the smoothie and turn it brown. It still tastes fine, but it just doesn’t look as pretty. If this doesn’t bother you and you want to use a mix with berries, go right ahead. It will still taste awesome. This recipe makes enough to split between two people, but it’s so good you may want it all for yourself!

This smoothie is perfect for everyone, whether you want to lose weight, eat more veggies, or just enjoy a yummy and refreshing treat.

Do you love green smoothies too? What other ingredients do you like to include? Try this one out and let me know what you think!

Yummy this is so good! I replaced the oj with almond milk/water for a little boost of protein. It’s good both ways.
