4.2.17 Self Care Sunday – 5 Self Care Ideas

Happy Sunday! It’s been a very busy couple of weeks around here, so I’m really looking forward to taking some time for myself today. The warm weather we’ve been having has really lifted my spirits and sparked that motivation inside of me. I’m ready to get outside and clean up the yard, open the windows, and freshen up the house. My husband and I are getting more anxious each day to begin building our deck as well as work on a few other projects around the house.

But for now, it’s time to focus on self care. Sunday is my day to relax and forget about the chores for a little while. For this Self Care Sunday post, I thought I’d share a few self care ideas that I’ve been loving lately. This should give you some ideas to enjoy today and throughout the week.

1. Yoga

Doing yoga on a regular basis has really helped me gain strength, balance, and confidence. I love attending class on the weekends, but I can’t always make it during the week. I recently found this yoga routine from Broma Bakery, and I have to say I’m loving it. It’s a great way to fit in some yoga at home when you can’t make it to class.

This routine takes me about 35 minutes to get through. It’s broken down into three separate flows – one sun salutation, a balancing flow, and a strengthening flow. I’ve been setting a timer on my phone for each flow. I run through the poses multiple times until I reach the targeted time. The sun salutation is a great warm up, and the two other flows really get the heart pumping and make for a seriously great full body workout. Some poses I’m not so good at, so I modify them as needed. That’s another thing I love about yoga. It’s all about your own practice. You may not be able to do every pose perfectly, and that’s okay. Just keep moving forward and pushing yourself a little bit at a time.

 2. Hydrate

Lately I’ve been trying extra hard to drink plenty of water. I definitely notice a difference in my body when I’m not getting enough of it. I get dry skin, have less energy, and generally feel less healthy overall. A couple of tricks have been working well for me. First, I fill a big mason jar with water each night and put it on my nightstand. As soon as I wake up in the morning, I reach right for the water. I try to chug all of it before I eat or drink anything else. I also keep a regular water bottle next to me at work that I sip on throughout the day.

Second, I’ve been hooked on the passion fruit flavored La Croix water. I have to admit that I wasn’t a fan of La Croix the first time I tried it. I really wanted to like it, as I was hoping it would help me to stop drinking pop, but it just didn’t do it for me. It took a while for it to grow on me, but once I discovered the flavors I liked, I became hooked. In my opinion, the passion fruit is hands down the best flavor. If you haven’t been able to get on board with La Croix just yet, give this one a try!

3. Moisturize

This winter really took a toll on my hands. It seemed like every time I looked at them they were cracked, dry, and red. I tried a few different hand lotions, but I’ve really been in love with these ones from The Body Shop. I bought a few of these travel size lotions to keep in my purse and at work, and a larger one to keep at home by my bed. No matter where I’m at, I try to have a lotion nearby. Using this regularly has really helped to soften my hands again, and I love the scents. I think Pink Grapefruit might be my favorite. Plus I’m a sucker for pretty packaging, and I think these little travel size tubes are just adorable!

4. Essential Oils

One of my favorite ways to freshen up my home is by diffusing essential oils. I love mixing different oils to create my own blends, but today I’m thinking about going with either Purification or Thieves, both from Young Living. We’ve had a lot of sickness going through our house lately, so these would both be great for purifying the air.

5. Kombucha

Kombucha is popping up everywhere these days. In case you don’t already know, Kombucha is a fermented tea that is believed to have tons of amazing health benefits. It contains properties that detoxify, aid in digestion, help with weight loss, and may even prevent cancer. Sounds good to me!

It’s sometimes called nature’s soda because of it’s natural carbonation. It can have a vinegary taste, which isn’t very pleasant as you can imagine. This is why some kind of juice is typically added in. Lately I’ve really been loving the Guava Goddess flavor from GT’s. You should be able to find it at most grocery stores. It’s fruity, tart, and slightly sweet with just the right amount of fizz.

Even though Kombucha has all these amazing properties, it can be slightly dehydrating because of the natural alcohol that is produced during the fermentation process, which is another reason why I make sure to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated!
