Can you believe September is here? As much as I hate to see summer go, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t completely stoked for fall!

I have always loved fall in Michigan. The weather is getting colder, which means we get to break out the cozy sweaters, boots, and flannels. The leaves are turning colors everywhere we look. There are so many fun and festive activities happening all around – apple picking, pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating, and more.

Of course, there’s the fresh apples, cider, and donuts. There’s nothing like a visit to the cider mill for a cold glass of cider accompanied by warm cinnamon sugar donuts. You simply cannot let fall pass by without it! And we can’t forget pumpkin spice. Love it or hate it, it wouldn’t be fall without it. Lattes, muffins, coffee creamers, candy, cereal – you name it, it probably comes in pumpkin spice flavor.

One of the things I love most about fall is decorating my home. This time of the year, I want my home to feel like a warm and cozy retreat. To do this, I have a few essentials that I like to have on hand when fall arrives.

Today I am sharing with you a list of my top 10 fall essentials for the home. If you haven’t felt prepared for the new season just yet, this list will help with that. Stock up on these items and your home will be looking, smelling, and feeling like fall in no time!

1. Essential Oils

One of  the easiest ways to transition your home to a new season is by changing up the scents. Instead of using air fresheners, try diffusing essential oils to freshen up  your home. The set pictured below comes with six pre-made fall blends that sound good enough to eat including pumpkin pie, apple cider, and coffee cake.

You can always create your own blends using individual oils as well. Cinnamon, clove, ginger, and orange oils all work well in fall blends just to name a few. Check out Hello Glow for a few ideas.

2. Candles

Candles are an easy way to instantly add an element of coziness, so you should definitely include them on your fall shopping list. There’s just something so comforting about burning a scented candle. These days I mostly diffuse essential oils, but I still like to have small candles placed around the house to create a cozy and relaxing ambiance.

3. Household Products

Another super easy way to bring fall into your home is by swapping out your everyday household products with fall scents – things like hand soaps, lotions, and cleaning products. I absolutely love Mrs. Meyer’s products. They have some of the most amazing seasonal scents like apple cider and mum. And, not gonna lie, I’m a sucker for pretty packaging!

4. Throw Blankets

As the weather starts to get colder, having plenty of warm, cozy blankets on hand is a must. We always keep one at the end of our bed and a few on our couch. Another great idea is to keep some in a basket by the door so you can enjoy your coffee outside on a chilly morning or snuggle up around a bonfire.

5. Throw Pillows

Another essential for a cozy home is plenty of throw pillows. They really help pull a room together while adding warmth and color. Plus, they are super easy to change out with the seasons. You can find lots of cute and affordable fall-themed pillows and covers on Amazon, or check out my list here for more places to find affordable throw pillows.

6. Storage Baskets

Storage baskets are great to have all year long, but they are particularly useful in the fall and winter for storing those extra blankets and pillows. Keep one next to your couch, in a reading nook, or next to a rocking chair on the front porch to create a perfect, cozy, and organized fall space.

7. Pumpkins

No surprise here. Obviously with fall comes plenty of pumpkins. They are easy to decorate with, can be placed almost anywhere, and will instantly bring a festive fall vibe to your home. But don’t feel like you have to stick to the traditional orange ones. Check out the variety of colors, shapes, and sizes available below. You can find pumpkins to match just about any style.

8. Hot Beverages

Once fall comes around, I never want to be without a hot beverage. Whether it’s coffee, hot chocolate, or hot apple cider, I need a mug full of some kind of hot liquid to warm up with.  You’ll want to make sure you have plenty of options on hand as well as mugs to share with friends and family for those chilly mornings or nights spent around a bonfire.

9. Porch Decor

The front porch/entryway is probably the first place most people see when they come to your house. Don’t forget to add a few seasonal touches here to welcome your guests inside. It doesn’t take much – a welcome mat, a festive fall wreath, pumpkins, flowers, or even a bale of hay are easy ways to dress up your front porch.

10. Towels/Linens

This covers a few areas in your home. First, you can switch out hand towels and dish towels for more decorative fall ones. This is an easy way to add a fall touch to the bathrooms and kitchen. You can even switch out your bath towels with some fall colors. Don’t forget about bed linens, either. You’ll want to start thinking about adding warmer sheets and comforters and/or keeping an extra blanket or two by each bed. That way everyone can stay nice and cozy while they sleep.
